Activities of the Sochi District Police in the first half of 1924

History and Historians in the Context of the Time. 2025. 34(1): 3-10.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the study of the activities of the Sochi district police in the first half of 1924. Documents from the Sochi city archive are used as research materials in this work. The research methodology is represented by both general scientific (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, classification method) and special historical research methods (historical-genetic and narrative). The author provides case statistics, data on other crimes and incidents, as well as data on cash receipts from various fees. It is noted that the work of the Sochi police was hampered by serious problems related to the payment of police officers and the lack of any transport at their disposal. It is separately stated that despite the difficulties in the work of the Sochi police, in general the work was satisfactory, and in the first half of the year the police were in charge of about 500 cases of various nature (from thefts, robberies and crimes of a violent nature to cases of suicides, fires and accidents).

The Uralzapadles Trust Fleet in 1934–1936

History and Historians in the Context of the Time. 2025. 34(1): 11-21.

Abstract:
In December 1934, the People's Commissariat for the Forestry Industry decided to dismantle the network of timber rafting trusts across the country, transferring their functions to logging trusts. In December 1936, this measure was deemed erroneous, and the timber rafting trusts were restored. For Kama water transport, this meant the temporary liquidation of the Kamlesosplav Trust, whose timber rafting functions had been performed by the Uralzapadles Trust from 1934–1936. During these two years, the trust became one of the largest shipowners on the Kama River. Using a tabular analysis of the Uralzapadles fleet distribution orders, this paper reconstructs the biographies of the trust's vessels. It is shown that, since the trust struggled to operate the fleet it inherited, its numbers remained virtually unchanged. Several vessels were decommissioned, and several were built internally. Uralzapadles basically returned the fleet it had previously received to Kamlesosplav. However, as for the Volga transit agencies, only two boats from the former fleet returned; all the others were likely dispersed to the Volga entities, and therefore, in 1936, Kamlesosplav received a virtually new transit fleet.

The Role of the Personal Factor in the Personnel Policy of the Cheboksary Hydroelectric Complex Construction

History and Historians in the Context of the Time. 2025. 34(1): 22-27.

Abstract:
The history of the creation and development of the Cheboksary hydroelectric complex has always been of interest to researchers. In this article, the author presents the results of a study on the individuals who led the construction of the Cheboksary hydroelectric power plant. The study was conducted using various sources, including archival documents, journalistic literature, articles in scientific journals and periodicals, and online resources. The research was conducted using a comparative historical method, a systematic analysis method, and an interviewing method, which allowed for the generalization of the data from the sources. The individuals who led the construction of the hydroelectric complex were remarkable personalities. These were people with extensive experience in hydraulic engineering. They played a significant role in the development of the plant. Currently, there is a shortage of workers in many sectors of the economy, especially in construction. The experience of building the Cheboksary Hydroelectric Power Station can be useful for building a strong team and reducing staff turnover.

Content Analysis of the Markers “Perestroika”, “Glasnost”, “Democratization” in the Newspaper “Pravda” (1980–1991)

History and Historians in the Context of the Time. 2025. 34(1): 28-31.

Abstract:
This article presents a content analysis of key political markers of the perestroika period – “perestroika”, “glasnost”, and “democratization” – based on publications in the Pravda newspaper from 1980–1991. The study is based on a sample of issues spanning four periods: 1980–1984, 1985–1986, 1987–1989, and 1990–1991. Frequency analysis and a comparative study of the functional load of the markers are used to identify the dynamics of their usage and semantic shifts. The terms "perestroika" and "glasnost" demonstrate an early and sharp increase in frequency, peaking in the late 1980s, which is associated with the active phase of political reform. “Democratization” appears later and reflects the evolution of the political agenda. The decline in the use of all three terms in 1990–1991 and the shift in their tone toward negative associations correlates with the crisis of reform and the subsequent collapse of the USSR. The presented data confirm that the official press served not only as a tool for ideological dissemination but also as a reflection of the sociopolitical dynamics of the late Soviet period.
